Any of you computer experts know what has happened here?
I have had a new PC for five or six weeks and I have only just noticed that while I was installing all my normal software the screen saver, and possibly anything to do with power management, stopped working.
It is possible to preview any screen saver but that is all. I can't use any power save settings either. It seems that anything that has reference to time is no longer functioning. Not a huge problem but annoying all the same.
This is a desktop PC with XP Pro.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Cheers.

No one got any ideas, then? I thought there would be a small deluge of things to look at.
Oh well.......

Thanks anyway.

I had a similer thing happen with a screen saver I installed.

I just use one of the boring ones that comes with xp now and it solved the problem.

I have no idea why it happens though.

OK, here is what I need to know.

1. What is you mobo make and model.

2. Did you try to use System Restore to try and repair the problem

3. What is the make of your PC.

4. Have you checked the device manager under Control Panel>System to see if anything is showing up exclamation marks.

Sometimes things get confused in the hardware drivers and then complain with the results you mentioned. My home server refused to use power management when the drivers got corrupted. My guess is the same fix to that (reinstall the mobo drivers) will fix yours as well.

Once you get back to me with the info we can delve further...
