I am lining my shower room with pallet wood. Two walls have no condensation after showers. Two outer walls have some condensation. I have screwed the wood direct to the two clear walls but should I do the same with the other two or fix battens to the wall and screw the wood to them ?

I have one extractor fan and one heater I set to cold after showers. The condensation lasts for about 15 minutes. All the wood is coated with external wood preserve before staining and then with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil.

Any advice or experience would be welcome.

Thanks

I suspect you will see expansion issues immediately and major rot issues in time with this... Hardwax oil won't form a total moisture barrier, and paint on wood preservative is generally quite short lived in its abilities.

If you found appropriate pressure treated or naturally durable timber, it would be less alarming.

I think youre making a mistake. You are in for a lifetime of pain trying to keep the hot water and steam out of it.

Use thin wall insulated plastic planking. Its ever lasting. it stops mould, its easy to clean and never cold when you lean up against it.

You really need to either insulate the "Cold" walls or ventilate the room, both wood be better.
Opening a window after showering will cause most problems, leaving door open, letting the warmer air circulate that is in the house already, would be better, A Ventaxia, if you can fix one would help, you can set a timer, keeping it going for a few minutes would clear the steam produced.
Or fitting a radiator, or an electric towel rail, being dry heat would help

Fixing timber to the walls will not achieve anything towards curing you're condensation problems.
I suggest you Use the pallet wood and make some nice garden furniture and dry line the walls with insulated plasterboard
If the shower room is unheated, Keep tiles to a minimum, they will "store" the colder temperatures.
