Got hold of the wifes new laptop yesterday and installed the internet connection with virgin media.
I/E installed OK together with virgin email.
However I cannot find how or where the guff is on Outlook Express in windows 7.
Can anyone please give me some guidance. virgin support was busy, (the boys must have been active  )

I don't think there is any Outlook Express for Windows 7 or Vista.
Apparently microsoft replaced OE with Windows Mail.
(Sorry can't comment further as I use Mozilla Thunderbird)

It is now called Windows Live Mail on Windows 7.

Go to all programmes, Windows live folder and you should find it there.

Windows 7 is not bad. But I can't find out how to do a search of my disc, for file types. As I seem to have lost a download from PlansNow I am a bit miffed...!

It doesn't work the same way as XP, obviously and there is no mention of 'search' in the right click menu.

Does anyone know if I can do a search of the disc, for *.PDF files?

Obliged.

Thanks, modern life is getting more involved everyday.

Live Mail and Google are a waste of space. They made things uber-complicated. I have ditched my 'Livemail account for that reason. Find Yahoo Mail much simpler.

John. :)

Benchwayze, which security program are you using for your windows 7.
The virgin media one on our 7/64 seems a disaster. So sllllllllllllllllllllllllllow

DW.

I use Avast. My ISP is also Virginmedia, and no complaints, but for the constant interruptions with updates from Avast.

I suppose I could set preferences to have those on demand though. But so far, not a serious problem.

Open windows explorer and at the top right hand side is a search box. So to search for all PDF files on drive C. Click on C drive in explorer then in the search box it will say search C: now click in that box and type *.pdf and it will start searching, you can see the progress by the green bar at the top of explorer.

It took me some time to work that out when I first got Win 7.

I have Windoze 7 and Live Mail on our laptop with no problems. I find it easy to use.

Avast as well and if it weren't for the updates it would be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike me-thinks :D

I had AVG professional, but it slowed everything down so much that I phoned them to find out what the problem was. The answer was to disable 1/2 of it and when I asked if that dropped the price I was told no way. I kicked that into touch!

Benchwayze, to do a search for a file search go to 'Start', 'Computer' and type *.pdf into the search box in the top right. No need to hit enter, it will do the search straight away. Just select the area that you wish to search.

Good ere init :D

Something else that ain't not written anywhere. If you click on the tiny blue box to the right of the date/time in the bottom right corner it takes you to the desktop...

And if you want to bring up the Windoze Task Manager then click 3 buttons on the left of the keyboard at the same time -- Ctrl/Shift/Esc and up it pops. It's a quick way to force any problem programmes to close.. You can also look at what your 'puter is doing..

Nearly forgot.. This is for Win7, not sure about Vista?

If you, like me, get fed up with tryping out a loAD OF UPPERCAse trype because you've accidently hit the capslock key, then here is a saviour for you --

1. Press Start > Control Panel > Easy of Access > Easy of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use
2. Mark the Turn on Toggle Keys checkbox. You'll now hear a beep whenever yuou accidentally catch the key, and another when you turn it off again.

Sorry for the hijack DW

constant interruptions with updates from Avast.

mentioned by Benchwaze.

How often does it update itself? Which version of Avast are you using?

I use 5.0.677, which was released a few weeks ago.

Both the program and virus files have three options for updating under the settings / updates tab.

The virus definition update on my machine is set to automatic. The program checks on boot up, but I haven't noticed any other updates.

The program update is set to 'ask when an update is available' which has worked once since I installed it.

Cheers

Dave

Deejay, I am quite happy to share the thread with you and anyone else who contributes on the subject of security issues and other tips. :)

DeeJay,

Updates about three to five times a day.
I can set it to manual updating so I do it once a day, but I can't be assed..! So I tolerate it...

I.e., tolerance, the secret of long life and a good marriage.. So my old Dad used to say. Seems he was right!

Thanks for that tip - it works on my XP machine as well
