Hi all

I am sure you all think that I spend my day meditating and coming up with contemporary work for the galleries I supply.

Well you are wrong. I spend all day listening to Pink Floyd, meditating, drinking tea and making my contemporary work. Lol, but every now and then I get asked by customers to make more everyday items.

these sort of one off's and small batch work I enjoy and they are always different and still creative. It is interesting to meet the people who own the homes and to look around them.

These are a couple bits of work that I did recently. The carved finials I do quite often in various types as one off's as people will want a unique finial and ask me to either make their design or copy one they already have.

This one recently I made twelve off for a nearby regular customer.

The table is also the sort of work I undertake. This yew was from the customers home.

I nice thick slab of on three egg forms legs. The legs I laminated with two inch thick yew from the same tree then turned and finished in oil.

Dark Side of the Moon is one of my favs.

Went to see Aussie Pink Floyd in concert, They normally do over 50 gigs around Europe. The best Floyd tribute,. Amazing show. Don't know if you have ever seem them but you must.

looks like a great job, really like the way you moulded the finial to match the original one, is that a dremel you are using to make the groove, and if so what bit is in it.
The Table reminds me of tasmanian or Australian outback furniture, built for rugged use but retaining character too.

I saw Battersea power station a few weeks ago.........and couldn't believe that there wasn't a giant pig hovering above it!!!

Above DSotM, I put Wish You Were Here top, with Animals right up there too....and, I really liked Final Cut........and even Division Bell.

With Syd? Well Piper at the Gates of Dawn........excellent stuff, but a bit folksy for me. No, I reckon his absence inspired their most marvellous album.

Anyway, that is three postings in the lathe forum in one day......I'm outa here!

Hi all

Yes George is right it is a proxon carver. It is a very useful bit of kit. Nothing that can not be done with hand/palm chisels but the proxon makes it easier.

They are worth the moeny steve and you can get loads of profile chisels to fit them.

Division bell is great. I have to say I like all of it , the old and the new, has depth somthing I find lacking in todays main stream music, as much as I like watching the Pussy cat Dolls, lol without their long legs I loose interest .

Thanks. I enjoy all aspect of wood work although I do little outside of turning. I spent 12 years doing a job and hating the major part of it I decided that I would now only do in life what I enjoy and want to do.

I am in a very blessed and fortunate position to be able to concentrate on my creative work as this is what I enjoy doing. I realise some people think that a living can not be made by it alone. Well I have to say they are wrong, it comes down to product , marketing and location in which to sell and which market you aim at.

However as you say a change is as good as a rest and the change keeps skills sharp that otherwise would get a bit rusty.

Oh don't worry my friend. Zeppelin is also in my files as well as Tull.

I have a mate that felt it was his destiny to educate me into the world of find music and now I losten to it all day long.

I like anything from Four seasons to motor head, with a lot of blues, but what ever I listen to it has to have depth and the artists have to be able to play their own instruments.

But as I say I do have a soft spot for the Pussy Cat Dolls, but then a man is allowed his weakness. :lol: :lol: :lol:

I actually got this job to start with about a year ago. I made two finials for the lady and thought that was that. But just goes to show how repeat business can come around. Now she wants the rest doing. her friends want some work doing too so it is good.
