Osborne EB3 Mitre Gauge Review

Had a look at your review, yep the EB3 is accurate, its alot better than the old eb1 and eb2, both the older versions wern't adjustable where as the eb3 is . I somehow managed to cut the tip off mine, never even noticed until it landed on the floor behind me. its also quite a bit heavier.
Excaliber bought the designs from osborne and now market it. I'm not sure but i think they must licence it for dewalt as well as they sell it with there DW746 table saw package. so i'm sure they must sell it as well :wink:
I also have the incra 2000 which i would rate just as good if not fractionally better by which i mean i have never had to recalibrate it where as i have the EB3 a few times.
Also from a safety point of view I noticed you dont have any guarding or riving knife or any kickback device attached, dont you suffer from any kickback whilst cutting thin stock, i learned a hard lesson from a unisaw kickback a while back.

what about doing a Jack Rabbit review, i'll give you some input if you want i have 4 of them and had them about 4 years now, would be lost without them best tool i had when i was doing kitchens

Glad to see your back on dry land!
I do have a splitter for my saw-its a European type split that bolts on the back of the blade, complete with guard. I just sometimes don't have it on, eh, you know, if I doing a review, eh, for clarity. :roll: Thats it, yup, for clarity when photographing........... :lol:
I've set my fence with a smidge of "toe-out" which has stopped any hint of kick-back. I recommend giving that a try-mine was a bit of a scary bugger when I first got it. This cured that!

Well my EB-3 was delivered today from Lee Valley, shipped on the 23 December by surface mail.
Looks a very nice bit of kit just need to get some more time in the workshop to try it out. :twisted:

Reason for getting from Rob and Co? Cost I have paid £105.60 delivered best price in the UK I found was £160. :shock:

I now also have the Lee Valley & Veritas Fine Woodworking Tools and Hardware Catalogs 2004-2005, think they should come in plain brown covers, defiantly top shelf material. :wink:

When setting it up be careful with the width adjustment grub screws. Where the slots are lazer cut the is a small amount of waste that ruins the threads. When tightnening them do so as if you were cutting the threads fro the first time. (It's why they put a spare set in the box! :roll: )
Apart from that its a piece of cake-and do put the abrasive non-slip strip on. It makes a world of difference!

Mine was shipped about 4 weeks ago and still waiting.

The shorter of the two of course. :roll: :wink: So yours has gone on the grand tour, it will still be a good tool when it arrives, just better travelled than most.

The EB3 looks really good. Is it still only available direct from the US judging by the postings above ? Does anyone know an approximate shipping cost from there ?

In the meantime would welcome any ideas on making the existing mitre gauge on my new SIP CI more useable as there is about a millimetre of play in the slot !

Hi,

The EB3 cost me $42.71 (£24.34) via surface mail and took six weeks to arrive.

I'd check the mitre slot sizes on your SIP machine as i'm sure i've read somewhere on here that they're smaller than the american standard of 3/4 by 3/8....metric possibly ??.....so there's a possibility that it won't fit

Don't quote me on this as i could be wrong but certainly worth checking before diving in at the deep end

the size in metric is 19x10mm if you do send for one get some other bits and bobs, and a porn sorry a tool catalogue,but wear a dust mask to stop all that drool ,it makes the pages stick together . 1mm slop seems heck of a lot the ones i looked at, at the shows seemed to be ok.

Have looked again at the mitre gauge/slot and with apologies to SIP have probably exagerated saying it was 1mm out, more like 0.5mm, but certainly seems more than enough to mess up any cross cuts.

Have made up a crosscut sled (like Norm's ! ) so 90 degree cuts are not a problem but couldn't rely on the gauge for anything at present.

Any tips on fixing the current gauge to be a better fit would be very welcome. :?
