I’m in Havant your welcome to come and have a natter
We’re nearly neighbours! 😀. I dropped a message to Forest of Bere Woodturners earlier this week. They seem to be the only club local to Havant and Emsworth. Not heard back yet, but they do have a meeting calendared for Tuesday next week. Do you know anything about them?

Have finally plumped for a new Coronet Herald from Record Power. Collect from DM Tools tomorrow...

Not sure if I am excited by it, or just plain scared about my choice!
Ive got one, I'm delighted with it. Does everything I need it to.

Now your addiction starts.. chucks, faceplate, gouges, measuring dividers, sanders, exotic blanks, finishes.......

That said the lathe comes with a faceplate and some other bits and pieces so you can start turning the minute after you instal it.

Unfortunately, my wife makes me repeat “I do not need another tool” ten times every night…I’ll have to tread carefully with more bits. Might get away with some different materials though 😉.

Well, it’s finally built and running, although not without a few minor ‘challenges’ from the instructions! Is it just me being picky, but shouldn’t Record actually know what size of spanner is needed for something, rather than seemingly just guessing? And as for the leather grub screw protectors…

First chips tomorrow!!!

I heard back the same evening that I mentioned it to you - did wonder if I’d put my foot in it, and you were the chairman or something! They had an informal session on Saturday morning, and there’s a more structured meeting tomorrow evening which is a professional demo. I couldn’t tear myself away from opening boxes stamped ‘Record Power’ on Saturday, so didn’t go then, and tomorrow evening doesn’t sound like the best time to want to talk to someone about the club. I have said, though, that I will drop by the next informal Saturday, which is 11th January. It’ll be interesting to see them and find out a bit more.

Actually, she does really like flowers - I tend to lose her most weekends to the allotment on Beach Road.

Hi there. It’s beginning to feel like there’s a few turners around Portsmouth and Chichester. Do you like the Graduate? It crops up as a recommendation fairly frequently on this forum.

Indeed I do nice simple heavy machine, with a 240 V 3 phase VFD

I’m teaching myself to turn have watched lots of videos, I mainly turn tool handles as not that artistic if I’m honest although I have enjoyed turning some Christmas trees out of some well seasoned oak with the skew with a few catches along the way recently

That machine was common in schools in the days before CDT(?) reared its ugly head. When I trained at West Dean College almost fifty years ago that was the installed lathe. Can't fault it! Quite a heavy machine though.

Hiya Jerry p
Titchfield member here. I use Axminster lathes, one is dad/mums bought in 1992. So old that Axminster had to look in there archive to find the info on the machine

Iirc they were designed for educational establishments, which explains why may people raise them on blocks. Ours at school ('65) were probably mid '50s.
