Hi, I am new here and this is my first post. The old Record vices in general are very rare here in the Netherlands but i finaly found one and I'm restoring it. It is very rusted so it wil need some work but that's okay. I found (after I got it moving) it's missing its end cap, spring, washer and pin. And during the derusting I broke the spring. I tried looking for parts online but found none. Perhaps anyone here can point me to a source for parts for these beautifull old vices.
Thanks!

At those prices you may as well go out and buy another used working vice.

Good news! I contacted the previous owner about the missing end cap and he found it lying on the floor underneath his workbench somewhere, so I'm one step closer.

About the spring, I will email knighton tools. But the ones they sell on their website are somewhat different to the one in my vice. Does anyone here know if the new types fit the old models?

The price for the one spring is more that I paid for the vice but, like I said before, these old vices are very rare in the Netherlands. I tried to get one from the UK via ebay but I haven't found any sellers willing to ship the 15kg unit to the Netherlands. So i don't have many options here.

An option is to take the bits of the old broken spring to a spring maker and see if they can make one for you. Its a fairly simple process just needs a few unusual tools to keep spring aligned and possibly annealed.

Bit of a hijack, sorry. I was given two of these vices recently. One is in great condition, the other won't wind out. It just clicks. It comes out with the quick release. And winds in ok. Any ideas anyone? Is it worth repairing?

Either the spring holding the half nut against the thread is very weak or there is too much friction on the runners and the half nut takes the easy option. Clean it all and make sure it all moves freely first.

No dice,
Knighton tools is out of stock.
I tried local spring makers and found one that might kind of replicate the part but he charges me about £80,00 for it which to me seems way too much.
Any other suggestions?
