Brades were a West Midlands toolmaker from Oldbury and this type of product is really typical. They were a large concern and startedaround 1790s. They did make wood chisels but mostly garden/agricultural gear.

Also made the best zaxes and rips for slaters.
 
Serves the same purpose, just different aim.

How so?

A froe has infinite depth (length) of cut.

Drive the thing above into a stick and before you have gone a foot, the top of the stick hits the handle and you have to stop.

Look at a breadknife - you can slice an infinitely tall loaf with it, but can only stab it into the loaf until your hand touches the crust.
