Paying a flat so much per mile by train, road or air, plus making them stop overnight in hotels would be a start.

Roy.

If they want to stay at the Dorchester they should pay any extra above a fixed amount. How they spend their salary is their business IMO, it's how they spend ours that annoys me, and some at least maintain it's none of my business.

When I was in work - before this bunch of no-hopers ruined the economy - there was a set amount that I could claim as overnight subsistence, or meal allowance - over that was deemed a taxable benefit. Just how come this lot don't come under the same tax rules as the rest of us?

Exactly ... and that cures the thing Roys mentioned too ...
Saty at the Savoy or the Dorchester if you wish .. you get 35 quid for your stay overnight. ( or whatever ), if you wish to supplement that from your OWN MONEY, then thats fine... but it comes from your OWN MONEY.

For years and years they're successivley ensured that whenever implimenting any horrors on the general population, they got themselves exempted in some wriggly fashion.

I mind in the 70's when my old man went self employed and had to pay his stamp, the MP's got themselves wriggled out of something to do with that too.

Its all wrong.

Time these dispicable people were outed, and fully exposed for what they are.

Yep! Apart from prisoners these people are the only ones who can smoke at work. Don't do as I do, do as I tell you.

Just as an 'aside' and by way of coming back down off the ceiling (  ) ... given that a large slice of the country are very dis-satisfied with the direction in which we have been taken, and also ( to remain balanced ), have no faith in what the alternative would currently be ....

If we were to have a choice of anyone , anywhere, to rise up and offer common sense, constructive leadership in a 'new way' ... who would you like to see ? and if you can.. reasons why ?

I'll give a starter for 10 ..

1. Stephen Fry. - one of the country's most intelligent minds,
with a very well informed, well educated rational trains of thought
whom I would trust to act in the best interests, in an honest and
upstanding manner.

So ... any more film titles?

Jenx..Stephen Fry? You must be joking. Anyone who can come out with rubbish like 'She's the Princess Diana from the wrong side of the tracks' when referring to J Goddie is not leadership material.

At the end of the day Ministers are can carriers, the voice of the dept that they head up, assuming that they listen to what they are told of course, behind them are the pros. The senior civil servants who are supposed to know what they are talking about.

We may well make light of the situation, but against better judgement I have decided to return to the political side of the forum, one must surely concede that this present administration has devalued this country in not only a currency dimension but more importantly so in a national and personal dimension, it's as if one is ashamed to claim "I am British" anymore, murders don't make the front pages anymore, but the RIGHT to raise the union flag would seem more important to this government of the day as they feel it offends those who have come here to claim benefits but have not paid taxes like you and I.

Sorry for ranting but I had to have MY say.

Rich.

I missed that little Gem from Mr F Roger, ...

That aside - you not a fan ? 8)

Jacqui Does Westminster?

Hopefully the adverb will be corrected to "DID" because if the standards committee have actually GOT any standards, she will be asked to resign by the end of the week along with Mcnulty, if not, then one can only arrive at one conclusion, the standards committee probably have something to hide as well, it's a sad world that makes one as cynical as me, but there you go.

Dream On!

They will continue with the "Full support" of the Lord High Cyclops until he decides to move the deck chairs around later in the year. At that time they will be shunted sideways into "Less demanding" roles so they can spend more time with their respective families, while retaining all the pay and and perks of their current positions.

You couldn't make it up,
