Hi all,
Weathered the snow flurries and found these two oddities that I have not seen before:
blocks.jpg

The one in the foreground is aluminium and has 'The Boston' cast into the body; an iron nearly 1/8 thick and a cast aluminium wedge.

The rear one is even stranger, no marks at all that I can see. Very odd iron with a bend in the back and two 'horns' which sit on the adjuster.
Nice positive movement and a lateral adjustment as well. Nice front tote in ebonised beech.
The rear hand grip seems to have been welded on very poorly and may be a later addition.

Anyone got any thoughts on these oddities?

Hmmmmmmm! 158 views so I guess the answer is no!

I certainly don't have a clue! But the one in the back of the photo is pretty cool looking!

Never have seen one like it--even without the addition of the palm rest.

Take care, Mike

I've heard ice planes are cast in Aluminium to avoid corrosion. Never seen one though or even know of why one would plane ice (Ice Sculptures .....)

But as per usual a good hall

Rob,
Bloody h**l! That is amazing. I nearly didn't bother 'cos the guy would not come down from his asking price! It was the Boston that I thought was fun.

Thanks for the input, just tell me the aluminium one was one of two made for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to commemorate their trip to Boston when they went to complain about that distressing incident with the tea. :?

Regards
Martin (where history is not a strong point...)

Good find! Of course the condition of that one is excellent, and it has a box and dung. The car boot version is going to be around 1/4 that value, MAX.

Condition isn't everything, but it's a fair part of it... (and restored conditon often doesn't count, which is why my restoring efforts aren't economic)

Nice find Martin must be your month for the luck \:D/

Hi all

I seem to have some dim recollection of seeing a picture of a small plane just like the aluminium Boston model. It was in a collection of leather worker's tools and it was used for chamfering leather belts. Is this possible, Martin?

Or it could be just my old memory packing up again...

Regards.
