Hi all,
Just thought I'd show you a staircase we did this week. All in oak except for softwood treads with ply risers. We were a bit short of time so had to make it quick. It took 2 of us 2 days to make and 2 days to fit and finish.
Pictures are a bit rubbish and don't do it justice. Hope you like it.

Excellent! It sounds like a 'need it done before Xmas' job.

Did you make the bullnose riser, or buy in?

Another nice job, but 2 days, taken me 4 + days to get the stringers set out and cut for an Oak winder stairs,
and I still haven't worked the Newell yet!! and then make the Oak treads and risers, by Christmas.............

How do you connect your hand rails to the newels (trade secret)?

Paul

I made the bullnose myself, not too difficult, just made a series of kerf cuts in the riser and bent it around a former. We don't buy anything in, usually cheaper just to crack on and make it ourselves. The stairs will be carpeted and we used to M&T all handrails and drawer bore but now use a domino xl.

Yep good stuff. Is that american red oak? only ever seen white or english before.

Totally understand making stuff yourself. Met another joiner working in the same house as I was. He bought in a staircase kit which was missing the bannister. He just put it in minus bannister and then found the bannister was morticed into the newels! Dunno how he solved that as I had been and gone while he was waiting for bannister to arrive.
