Actually I would normally cut the wall side especially on something like wardrobes where there is a long strip but with these having the columns in front and it being a pretty short length the wall was straight enough to do it this way. When the strip was checked against the wall if there had been any gaps I would have scribed the wall side for a tight fit. HTH.
