Almost finished my first box made, while waiting for glues to dry etc, from offcuts of wood and Veneer, I've shown it in a few stages I hope and will try to take a better picture when its been 2 pac'd and the internals have been completed. Think the pictures may be a little large sorry.......

After some advice from Shultzy see last post have resized a picture

This was the top before gluing up, inserting splines and cutting in half.

Looks terrific to me. Any ideas what woods were used (or were they those 'mysterious' offcuts we all seem to accumulate)?

Carcass was made from an offcut, end of a plank, of American Walnut, the bottom was also a solid offcut of the same material. The splines are Mahogany and the dividers Maple. The quartered front and inside bookmatched panels are Madagascar Ebony. Don't know if I should make a handle or fit a lock, but I will be fitting a velvet covered piece of foam to the inside top. I have a little length of crowncut Cherry which I'll make another one with, but this time dovetailed edges and more veneered panels

Thank you for the comments, it looks better in the flesh, so to speak, the photo's are very poor. It's surprising what other people throw away that can be made into something useful! I'd like to make a marking or cutting gauge but don't know how to attach or work with brass or where to buy the knobs etc. perhaps Derek Cohen would elaborate a little more on how he does this, being a member of this forum?

Gawdlummocks. Those pictures would look a **** of a lot better if resampled to a third of their original size, and probably would no longer break the internet or the forums formatting either. I can't even fit those pics on my screen let alone in an internet browser. Nice box.

Nice box, the picture is so big on my screen the lid is in the cupboard next to my PC.

Can this post be removed as I can't do anything about the picture size and don't want to cause any more filling of cupboards or damage to screens.LOL Anyone who wanted to see it will have done so by now!

If you use a web based photo host like Photobucket and the like you can alter your pic size very easily (some even do it automatically) and then link them onto here for free. there's lots of free web picture hosts to use out there.

In the General chat area on this forum theres a sticky at the top all about posting pics with your posts.
:D

Moan, Moan, Moan, Moan, Moan, just give the bloke an honest appraisel of his work, not whinge about the size of the picture. :(
Nice box Bloonose mate.

Is it not possible to remove this post? I'd do it myself if I knew how. I don't mind the funny comments but I did say the phots were too big at the beginning and didn't know how to make them smaller till it was to late and already posted.

No need to remove your post (you can't delete anything that has been replied to - needs to be a moderator/admin)
But you can edit your original post;if you resize the pictures on your webhost (tiny?) to 640 x 480,or even 800 x 600,then alter the links for the images.
Or change them to thumbnails,so they post on here as small pictures, and can be clicked on to see them at original size.

P.S. - like the box :D

Andrew

It is a nice box and the big picture shows the accurate detail of the joints.

Managed to remove the large pics, my try to take a few of the finished box and repost at a better size later. Thanks for the encouraging comments

I was actually just trying to be helpful thats all :( and at the same time saving the forums bandwith bill :( . Nowhere in my post does it say moan, moan, moan  .

The size doesn't affect the bandwidth as the pictures are hosted elsewhere.

I did'nt mention anyone's name in my post proshop, there were 4 or 5 replies that mentioned the size of the pictures, and all we should be doing is appraise someones work not worry about saving bandwidth bill's that is'nt our concern, bandwidth bill's are the site owner's problem. All it would take is someone to p.m. bloonose how to make changes instead of
criticising. The poor bloke has now taken the pictures off the page and that to me is not right. :(
