Done a Norton update this morning took about 15 miutes to do.
But now when i'm on the forum or something else and i click back,to see what i've done,it just takes me right back to the beginning when i logged on.
I have to log off to see what i've done now.
Is there a way of seeing what i've done without logging off first.
Be warned i am Technologically Challenged

Paul - I (and loads of others on the forum) have had big problems with Norton and all it's works. If you do a Google search for this site you'll come up with a screen full of free anti-viral/spam stuff etc which works really well, if something doesn't work simply try another one. I also use the Comodo firewall (separate Google search) which is also free. The net result is that you're 'puter runs a lot faster...... for nothing 'cos as soon as it's all up and running, Norton goes down the 'earth spike' :D - Rob

Thanks Rob.
I am on Virgin broadband and have been told that their free PC Guard is as good as any.
Any thoughts on this one to try, anyone :?:
I believe that i will have to uninstall Norton first to put another anti virus wotsit on.

I don't know anything about Virgin PC guard but imagine it will not be as resource hungry as Norton. You should definitely do a full uninstall of Norton and reboot before installing any other application.

I use AVG antivirus and Zone alarm firewall - think that they are pretty good.

Cheers :D

I have found that the major anti virus software packages are more nuisance than they are worth. They take over huge chunks of your computer gumming up the registry with countless bits of software. I have been using AVG free version for years and have yet to get a virus. Free update automatically and quite small footprint.

Thanks for the replies.

Right.
I have removed Norton and uploaded the Virgin PC Guard.
All went well :D
Problem now is that i have lost the broadband connection to my daughters pc (wired connection)
My pc has slowed right down, compared to what it was,and i've got this phishing filter that sems to be slowing it down.
I have noticed in my add/remove programmes that i have got 2 Symantec programmes. Are these also connected to Norton and have to be removed.
Paul.J.......Starting to panic

I had the same problem. You need to do a Google search for removal of Norton AV and you will find a link to the Symantic site where you download an uninstall file. Run this and your problems will be over.

Simon

Completely removing Norton is a nightmare last time I went down the road of a complete operating system install and a bit of house keeping I now do it once a year to keep things fast
