Hi Paul - Yes, it does seem that the latter episodes are better 'tho I thought the 36" belt sander was definitely OTT

He's a bit heavy on the old air nailer, and jigs just seem to appear as if by majic but as others have said, he has been responsible for getting a lot of people interested in woodworking so that can't be bad.

To be fair to the chap, he really got me thinking about seriously about taking up woodworking, even if he wasn't the cause of my initial interest in it. Nowadays, though, I just like watching him for his unbelievable pronunication, particularly of word containing Rs: a phrase like '...and we just secure it with some more brads' is absolute gold. He really does like nailing stuff, though.

I assume (tho' may be wrong) that the programmes mentioned in this forum are all available on satellite/cable TV. I don't have a Sky box or cable but I do have Freeview - is there anything of a woodworking type of show which is worth watching on the free channels? - mostly I seem to watch only stuff on the first 12 channels and have a quick flick across t'others when SWIMBO isn't looking - Rob

Just be thankful that they don't cancel the existing programmes and replace them with more Big Brother style shows!!!!!

and Norm will have a go at most things - even if it is obvious he has only just read a book before the cameras roll.

Take his turning ........ well, I suppost 60 grit is a tool of sorts!! With a long roll of that and a scraper there is nothing he can't turn.

OK - fair comment. Re-reading my post it does come across as a little harsh perhaps - I wrote it with a cheeky grin on my face. I am a fan of NYW and find it very inspirational for most of the projects he does (as I am mainly a turner) but I do wish he would sub out or bring in a guest to do the turning as it is clearly not one of his areas of expertise!

Sorry Simon
You got me wrong as I think the same thing you do about Norm on this, I should have put on a smile too

He should get some more lessons or the guest :) :-$ 8-[

Don't you think it's nice to see someone that isn't a perfect pro sometimes? Nice to see people making mistakes sometimes lol :)

We all do just we get better at covering them up :-$

I have watched most of his programmes and have recorded many. but I have never seem him use any filler in those nail holes, I cannot understand why he does not discuss this during the finishing process. Perhaps he has a secret and his filler stains to exactly the same shade as the surrounding wood, I wish.

I'm afraid I've never seen a complete Norm programme - excerpts, yes, but never the full thing - but I do have a book he wrote about tools. He seems to be aware of hand tools and of how to use them, but I'd say his perspective is more that of a framing carpenter than that of a cabinetmaker. Oh, and if he's reading this and doesn't need that belt sander any longer (because of his imminent conversion to hand tools), I have a nice corner in my shop where I'd be glad to store it for him.....

Scrit
