Cheekyboy I have just been through the same dilemma.
In the end I decided to purchase the Clifton No7 from Workshop Heaven, as Alan said 10% discount plus a small tub of ProtecTool Wax to protect metal tools and free shipping at the moment.
It arrived about half an hour ago!
The packing was very good, no damage at all (thanks and well done to Matthew - no connection only as a customer).
As I am in my Office at the moment I have no opportunity to "try" it out that will have to wait until tomorrow evening but first impressions are very, very good.
The handles look and feel as they should and it is very heavy and substantial, feels good in the hand, I am very impressed. Will check the sole/sides/blade etc when I am in the workshop.
I thought about the LN standard no7 and although this looks good, at £100 more than the Clifton the price is just too much.
I also looked at the LN Low angle no7 1/2 this looks good but just not sure about the bevel up config. Same for the Veritas Low angle no7 but in addition you can't use this for shooting as the machined parts of the side are very narrow.
As has been stated before I don't think you can go wrong with a no 7 from either of these three manufacturers, in the end it comes down to personal preference, and mine is Clifton (plus its all British made).
Martin.
