Re asbestos, I have gone down this road before, my local council says they will only take a bag full and enter your name on a register, even householders.
Had a go at my councillor, he said stick a small amount in your dustbin each week until it has gone. :wink: (16 sheets is too much aggravation for me)

So after the election I am going to approach my MP or MEP and get the facts in writing to present to my council. The last I heard orally was that the council has discretion on its asbestos policy.

Hi DW.

You don’t have to be licensed to deal with asbestos cement. When removing don’t saw or drill it just cut through the fixing bolts with a disc cutter. Needs to be double wrapped and labelled as said above. I am surprised that yours has no supports. I was looking at an old sectional concrete garage with the a/c roof spanning the long way. It has 2 steel angles spanning the short way as purlins.

As you say Devon are exercising their discretion in accepting asbestos cement It may be worth getting in touch with the location nearest to you to see how much they will accept. See Devon CC at http://www.devon.gov.uk/index/environme ... bestos.htm

As soon as a contractor removes it it becomes trade waste. Try locations found on this site for cost and any conditions

All the info you need to work out what you need for an Onduline roof is here;

http://www.slecladding.co.uk/ondul.htm

In my opinion Onduline is best laid over an OSB or ply deck because it does sag noticeably between purlins. I experienced this on a professionally built stable. Although it is unsightly and looks like a defect it hasn’t actually leaked.

Corroline is cheaper but thinner and lighter. You will find it in most DIY stores. I used it to overlay a boarded and felted shed roof, no problems and waterproof.

I wouldn’t use shed felt myself but glass fibre reinforced polyester resin is very serviceable. The mother in law has it on her garage. There are firms on the web who offer advice and sell the materials online. This one:

picked at random off the web claim to offer a 20 year warranty and expect a life twice that. There are lots of others if you Google DIY glass fibre roof. HTH

Graham, many thanks for your time spent on my garage roof problem.

I had to make a trip up our tip this morning, (not Devon C.C.) but Torbay Borough Council and made enquires again.

They have now printed out their terms for householders, (no trade waste accepted), which are a little ambiguous, They will accept 6 normal sized bags double wrapped and sealed. Will need proof of identity, a driving lic. and motor insurance.

There is some reference to only 6 bags in a six month period, but I dont know if that also applies to asbestos or only building waste.

Will make roundabout enquiries.
