Thanks, Steve. Just seen the "Director's Cut" and I think that new addition makes a big difference! 8)

By the way, did you say you were also filming some stuff on bandsaws?

Well, yes, if I ever get them finished. There is one on setting up (yes, I know there are several already) and one on bandsaw jigs and "the clever stuff". But it's taking for ever and, quite simply, I've lost interest. (More job rejections today don't help!). But as I don't have anything else very exciting to do, I guess I'll just keep plodding on. Do I sound depressed? What a surprise!
I think I need my bed.

Will the drag test tell me if the infeed table is level with the cutter block.

Not on its own, no. The drag test tells you if the knives are the same at both ends and the same as each other.

If you still get snipe, then the drag test is too long. Raise the table until you get no snipe but you still have some drag. The exact amount of drag will differ from machine to machine (cutter block diameter, number of knives) but the principle is right for all machines.

Cheers
Steve

I think one of my problems is that my feed rate seems quite a bit faster than yours.
I`ll have to pratice.

steve, thank you for that video! I have struggled with planer thicknessers for years, i even sold one and got a new one still same old problems, until now!!! I watched your vid, brought myself a set from axminster, and my god, the machine sings, made setting the tables alot easier on my jet 260, thank you for this amazing video, keep them coming.

cheers Rob

Excellent review and vid. I've had a set similar to the Dakota for around 3 years. The real beauty is that once they are set, and the results pass the drag test, then you just keep the plunger bit locked. Unless your tables have migrated you get the same result each time you change knives - I can do 3 x 10" blades in ten minutes.

I have, however stopped using the expensive jig for the Tormek. It takes a long time to sharpen a set of knives and the results are not brilliant. My local sharpener bloke charges around 10 euros to sharpen a set of three knives perfectly, and picks up/drops at our local ironmongers.
