hello, i'm very new to scroll sawing, i could'nt afford to purchase a very expensive scroll saw, but i have a proxxon which i purchased from axminster, i'm very pleased with it apart from the blade tensioning when i do a lot of internal cuts,at present i have to tighten a threaded screw to clamp the blade in the top and the bottom, but i'm finding that after doing this a number of times, the screw head gets worn and i have to replace it, what i would like is some kind of quick release system, any idea if i can convert to one , does anyone know if a quick release clamp can be fitted somehow? thank you. Terry

Hi Terry.
Welcome to the forum and the world of scroll sawing.

Sorry I can’t give you any helpful information regarding your blade clamps, but I am sure somebody on this forum will be able to help, as there is a great depth of knowledge and experience here, and we are all very friendly.

Take care and enjoy your scroll sawing.

Chris R.

hello Chris, thankyou very much for the welcome, i was so pleased to find this forum. Only just started scroll sawing and i'm finding it very addictive! i seem to spend most of my time in the garden shed, good job i have an understanding wife lol , i must say i can't believe just how much can be done with this saw, it's fantastic

Hi Terry and welcome to the forum

The only clamp I know of is the Delta Quick Clamp but don't think it will work on your Proxxon that is providing Delta would post to UK.

It is normal to have a bolt/screw system to hold the blade, may I suggest contacting a company called " Component Force" as the do a range of bolts , thumb screws etc of various grades of steel.

Have you contacted Proxxon regarding the bolt/screw quality ? I am surprised that a company like Proxxon would use poor quality products .

John

hello John. thanks for that info. no i have'nt contacted proxxon, maybe i should. When i recieved the saw, the blade tightening method was an allen key nut with the allen key supplied, but after doing maybe a dozen internal cuts i found that the nut was rounding off thereby making the allen key useless, being very pleased with the overall saw, i was reluctant to return it for such a minor thing, so i found a flat head screw to replace the allen key type nut, which works fine, but once again after a lot of use i'm slowly ruining this screw! i can keep replacing these screws, but i thought maybe there was some othe type of clamp i could use, that's why i posted my question. Being very very new to scroll sawing, maybe i'm over tightening the screw, i will just keep practicing and see how it goes.

Hi Terry. You will be surprised at how little tension is needed to tighten a clamp. My advice would be to screw the bolt in and when you feel it make contact then just a pinch more. A lot of us have the quick release clamp on our saws and when we do the clamp up it is just hand tight and the blade is secure.
