I know I said this before, but the fence for my Kity 419 has always seemed OK, within the limits of what it is - ie a smallish light duty saw. Is the Ax one different in some way, that people are dissatisfied with, or am I just tolerant of something others are not?

Either way I always thought it was good enough for the saw.

funny thing. I recently seen the new delta unisaw in fine woodworking and guess what fence they are using on it now. Yep The Biesmier.

As stated above Ed. It clatters up and down the table, hard to make adjustments to and personally I can't get on with a short fence. I've stuck a long strip to it for now but it needs properly setting up. The locking system is terrible and, even putting my weight down on the top, it often moves when screwing it tight.

Praps I've been spoiled by the supersaw. I just expected more. It seems bizarre to me that they tried to reinvent the wheel when the biesmier fences are clearly the most favoured.

In the USA where they seem to know no better, perhaps, but they're really sub-standard when compared to European sliding plate (short) rip fences. Even Delta offer a better fence, the Unifence

which is much more like a European sliding plate rip fence. Of course you could always modify a Bies type fence, but why didn't the makers think it through properly first?

Well, the saw arrived this lunchtime. Have just about finished putting it together but haven't yet tried it out really.
I can see what you mean Tom by the fence clatters. I need to look into whether there's a way of sorting that or whether it's something I just need to live with.
By heck it's quiet when you turn it on - can't wait to try it out a bit more tomorrow.

One thing I've just realised is that the saw is slightly higher (perhaps 1.5 inch) than my old one. I have every surface in the 'shop the same height so (in theory) any bench can be used as an extension for the table saw.
I'm going to need to redesign my moveable saw station - ho hum, perhaps I'll get it built properly this time around :).
