Hi Ash.

If your combination stone is an oil sone, and concaved, you can flatten it with sand and water on a flagstone, (paveingstone). If it is glazed, soak it in petrol, or paraffin, then give it a good scrub. Regarding grinders. I found mine at the car boot sale for £2.00. Keep your eyes open.

persevere, and good luck.

Hey, just to let you all know. I got the blade reground and now it cuts like a mofo........
It's lovely to work with now and all I need to do is keep up with the maintenance of the blade.....
Thanks again for all your help. It's greatly appreciated....

Be warned, I will be posting back here again

Peace out

Ash

Oh, When I finish the board I'll post a link for the pics if anyone is interested.

Unless you've also honed it, it won't be cutting anywhere near its potential!

Honing? even more to to? err............. I'm guessing smooth side of the combo stone?
It got reground to 25 º Shall I put something else on at 30º?

Yes - if you you have any of the common jigs, it's usual (looks around nervously) to grind at 25 degrees, and "hone" at 30 degrees, on a finer surface.

Eventually, the 30 degree surface gets big, making honing slow, and more grinding is done to reduce it again.

yeah, I had a jig and have done 30 as well as 35. That blade is like fried gold now.......

Well, I think that davegw got it spot on. Well done

And as for young person....... if almost 31 is young then young person I am :D

According to my doc I am transitioning to old (I'm 40), in other words old enough to moan, but young enough not to have much to moan about.

Mind you the Doctor I saw t'other day with a pain in my hip was very clear - I had transitioned! It was wear and tear :(

Holey mackerel. I best keep on skating then so I can get as much out of my body as I can before it totally fails on me.... I already have two titanium bolts holding the top of my tibia together.. Much more and I'll be like Steve Austin
