New router table top finished

Hi all

Remember my windfall of some laminated MDF and Mahogany?

I had nearly finished my NYW router table but this was too good an opportunity to miss I have completed most of the drawers but have instructions from mrs T to get on with some furniture and so for now, the table is 'complete'

Well, the MDF was quite bowed and so I screwed and glued two pieces of 19mm laminated MDF back to back and result was a nice flat but very thick and VERY heavy router table top

I edged it with some of the Mahogany, planed it without any sanding and then gave it a couple of coats of Patina - the colour is close to that of the Oak trim of the cabinet and I'm chuffed with this piece of luck.

I changed the shape and size of the top from Norm's plans to cater for the Incra and the lack of space in the corner :wink:

I even USED my Trend angle fix for the first time since i bought it 2 years ago :shock: :shock: It really is very accurate and finally useful :wink:



I am pretty pleased with it (except the main door which needs replacing with a better quality ply) and find it a dream to use but what do you think?

By the way, the router bit storage drawers are a very nice solution to the perpetual problem and are very useful indeed :wink:

Tony, the back section - is it a "micro" adjuster for the fence?

I'd never guess that the trim was in mahogany. It's looks far too light.

Using mahogany as trim around a router table...? What has it come to? This is an endangered species :wink:
What do you do for dust extraction with this kind of fence?

that is a great top and a good solution for the corner - very well done!

Is it on wheels? I ask because it would seem difficult otherwise to run a long moulding without hitting the wall.

Nice job. What have you used for the insert? I have a Rousseau/Trend/Axminster one, and whilst I was happy with it to start with, I'm not sure i'd use it again.

Phil, the whole fence is the Incra Ultra 24 that mrs T kindly gave to Santa to pass on to me this christmas :wink: Micro adjuster is 1/1000" and so only just adequate for woodworking :lol:

It is on wheels but to be honest a tiny bit too close to the floor and hits any small bumps in the concrete. Need to raise it a teeny bit when I get time.

I have indeed given it a good test and it came throught with flying colours I made the 7 drawers using the router table for all rebates and dado's

Tony... it umm.... looks fine in as far as it goes... but when ya gonna finish it.?? Half the bit storage drawers are missin, and yer wiring needs P-clippin...

I was given the plans by a member of the forum a while back and recenlty offered to give them away to anyone who wanted them. I have now passed them on to another member

When mrs T allows it I have to finish the two bedside tables I started last March and the air cleaner (remember that?) and the cabinet for the entrance hall that is only just started and.......

to be honest it works just fine as-is and I have more drawers than I need at present, so I'll probably add drawers as I need them
