Welcome Steve, from another ex pat (but I went "the other way" - to Switzerland).

Don't know much about old US or Canadian machinery, but aren't I right in thinking that my Excalibur scroll saw is "Canadian"? I used the quotes around Canadian because although I know my machine was made in Taiwan (for/under licence to General International, also a Canadian firm), am I not right in thinking that the original design of my saw was from a Canadian gent who sold out to GI? It really is a very good design.

And BTW, although it's made in Taiwan my saw is a very fine bit of kit indeed - materials, nuts & bolts, bearing, tolerances, and assembly, are obviously very closely specified and controlled indeed - presumably by GI themselves?

But keep up the old machine pix anyway please - always interesting.

Welcome Steve , I'm Mike from the sunny shores of Lake Huron. You will like this lot of loveable nut cases. As knowledgeable and friendly as they come. Stop by the retentive ward (hand tools) and enjoy the banter as we get to the bottom of jig vs. freehand edge restoration . It's something like going to comicon and asking which superhero is best or whether Kirk or Picard was the better captain. My wife just chimed in with " Kirk ... was ... the captain. And here I was planning some shop time, oh well. See ya around amigo.
Mike
