I know this is being debated in a slightly different way elsewhere on the forums, but this differs slightly.

I am currently a couple of weeks into decorating an entire four bedroom home (minus the new kitchen and bathroom thankfully). There are a number of decorating/DIY related conundrums I am coming up against and would like to seek advice. I have used other DIY related forums in the past but I always find them either dead or full of sarcastic idiots. So firstly I was wondering if this sort of thing would be ok to discuss on this forum? and if so, where should it be posted? Secondly does the board think a blog would be useful/interesting to document what I am doing. For personal reasons I can't use my own website for this so I would use a free blog service (maybe UKw's). A blog is not a place to ask questions so would the board tolerate a forum post that runs along in conjunction?

I'd be interested in the forums views on this.

Open Debate.

I would have thought that questions and discussions in thread form with commentary and reportage in a blog was a perfect way to go myself.
Cheers Mike

Hi WiZeR

As a new house owner myself facing a mountain of DIY tasks, I used this forum a few days ago to seek advice about my faulty kitchen lights. As usual, the clever and practical people on this forum pitched in with helpful suggestions within a matter of hours. So I would say this particular forum has worked very well for my ad hoc questions. I don't think I'd have the commitment to run a blog!

Regards.

Wizer, I am with Mike. I think it is an excellent idea. You ask your questions on the forum and for anyone who is intrested they can catch up with how you are doing on your blog.

Cheers

Mike

Hi WiZeR

It's a good idea. I'm facing a similar decision re the cottage I'm renovating. I liked the idea of a blog and have started the skeleton of it but did find every night when I got home I was too knackered to write anything.

I am still interested in doing it as (a) it's always great to get someone elses' perspective and (b) to seek advice and so I was wondering why you thought that a blog wasn't a suitable medium for questions and answers?

Roger

Well a forum is more a place for asking questions where a blog is about logging a diary. Much more like a story or WIP. Blogs do have a comment system and, of course, advice can be given there. But if I want to ask a specific question then i'd prefer to go to a forum where members are logging on specifically to exchange advice and information.
