New from downunder

Hi I am new to UkWorkshop found the site through the Australian woodwork forum I am known as wheelinround, hope you don't mind me popping in.
Born a geordie still one but have been downunder since 1961.

Have just taken up doing woodwork again I have been away from it for far to many years, recently purchased my first lathe a Jet mini variable speed.
Still getting used to it school was when i last used one.

Having limited space to work and use a wheelchair to get around most of the time doesn't stop me from attempting to have a go.

Welcome to the forum Geordie - could have been worse,you could be a Mackem :wink:
My parents emigrated to Whyalla in 1961 (my dad was in shipbuilding),but came back in 1963 (my mother didn't like the creepy-crawlies) - so I'm a Yorkshireman,but could well have been an Aussie..

Thanks to all for the warm welcome pls be carefull with the Gerodie to read and understand and convert is hard, but put me in a room with even just one (my cousin used to visit every couple of years) and no problem even my own family says in seconds your talking it. not bad after 45+ years :lol:

Then there are the days I have braved our cold winter here in Sydney to venture out into 9C and below into the garage for some woodwork. been nice the days we had 20C.

I am working on afew projects a new computer desktop, Chisel handles, Bobbin for a spinning wheel, various small tools a mini mallet, and a depth guage. the last two are finnished almost. I dont like the handle of the mallet so will replace it and the depth guage I have yet to fit a thumb screw.

The swift was made for my better half a spinner n weaver last year.

A bit of background I was a Motor Vehicle builder by trade and spent 5 years building buses n Coaches then 25+ years driving and repairing them.
Well I'll dive in and see whats been happeing Thanks again to all for such a strong welcome.

Just realised your date as per parents imigration was year we sailed in May arrived Sydney in the June of 61.
Fremantel/Perth was our first AU docking frought with danger they tied up and there where people disembarking when a call came sirens blared........gang planks pulled away. A massive storm had swept up and the ship was odered awat from the dock's, by the time they started to pull the bow away it had hit and pushed the ship Orion back into the warf smashing it and sending soem people to the floor and thoe on the docks for cover. It was all over and done within and hour gone. Those stuck on gangplanks were drenched and damage done to the dow but only minor compared to the warf.

I recall the mine people coming on board and trying to sign up every man to work the mines.
