Got some some emails from the American mags today all announcing the arrival of a new Delta Unisaw - made in the USA!
Comes with a drawer for spare bits & pieces!

Rod

Are you sure its made in America?? The last two tools I bought here were made in China, said so on the boxes....Delta`s name was everywhere along with Chinas

The cost of fuel has made them reconsider manufacturing in China. This new unisaw is indeed made in the USA, not just assembled.

And the riving knife goes up and down to the workers needs.

Its about time that the European standard on this was reverted.
Just because they make new regulations doesn't mean they cant make new regulations.
Or does it?

Suprised to see comments on the FWW site from Americans compaining about no blade brake and no sliding table. Looks like the yanks are coming around to our way of thinking (but Delta clearly are not).

That and rampant patriotism. Some (most) Americans will pay a premium for US made product, regardless of whether or not the quality is superior.

I don't understand what you mean by this, DW?

I think I'd pay a premium for British made too. Tho it'd still have to be the right saw at the right price.

Jake, the riving knife fitted to European saws is raised above the sawblade tips, this US saw allows the knife to be lowered so that rebates etc. can be cut.

Why shouldn't the EC representatives accept that some woodworkers want that type of saw and change their regulations.
After all we are supposed to be their masters.!

My tablesaw is fully CE compliant, and the riving knife is adjustable. It's a design/manufacture issue, not a regulatory issue.

Yes, it does look tasty in many respects. Big table (although, by the look of it, not enough space behind the saw for post-cut support - you'll still need to build an outfeed table) and all the controls on the front. I like that. Left tilt, left switch, some thought given to DX, yes, yes, yes.

But then the riving knife is open-ended and it supports the guard, so that when you DO use it for rebates and the like, the saw is unguarded. I'm also surprised that there is no mention of the fence in the video, so I guess short ripping is out, still.

I'd not spotted the brake issue.

What do we say? 8/10 for a good saw or 5/10 for a great missed opportunity?

Steve

Missed opportunity.

The DEFT saw is more innovative for this style of saw.

I have a Unisaw and it has a blade brake, I took that knife off, Top extensions they sell add ons to extend the table to the rear,it folds down out of the way when not needed. It came with a fence too 36 inches long. You can also buy an sliding table that mounts to your saw, again add on...everyone just doesn`t need them.Everything is an add on,only way to drive up the cost.Mine is 220 volt and 3 hp with mag. switch. An mine is on wheels too, they have brakes on the wheels too (add on) with a table extention of 5 ft to the left of the saw blade. My saw only cost me 1500.00 with 2 blades thrown in...
