Well it's been quite a while since i first asked for help regarding making my lathe bench to be more solid with less vibration, and so we could still fit the car in,and thanks for all the replies.
Decided to go with Chas's idea of using a steel frame legs which i got from a friend, and were cut to size, again thanks to Chas, but were also to be welded by the same friend, and to cut a long story short they weren't i got fed up of waiting so decided to make the legs meself using some 3"x2"
timber i had already got from a previous project.
Made the frames, glued and screwed together and they are now well and truely bolted to the floor.
I was given some 6'x8"x2" boards to make the bench top with. Two of these were glued and biccied together, and i just use some offcuts to fill in the back space.
The top is now screwed to the bench and the lathe is bolted to the bench top.
Glad to say that it is now solid, and the car still fits in the garage/ws too.Couldn't wait to give it a go :D :D :D
I also drilled a hole through the wall to fit a dust pipe through by the head stock. This works fine taking the fine dust away :D

Made three drawers to fit under the bench top to take my gouges and bits and bobs :D

Nice to see the residue of your work still all over the place. A man after my own heart.

Glad you've got it all sorted out Paul, what with the horse and the bench it seems ages since you have been able to build up a stock of shavings.

Expect to start seeing some natural edged hollow forms coming off that fancy lathe now. I know you have a load of suitable yew at the back of the shed so no excuses now

Hows the Hegner doing Paul?. Keep telling my other half that I need one but she says there is nowt wrong with me little Draper :( Will have to think of another way
Cheers

You're not wrong there Pete.
The bench, now i know it is more solid does give that piece of mind now.
Knowing that nothing is going to fall off, and now i have made my first natural edge i will be doing something similar with the Yew.I hope

Looks good, particularly like the drawers and the extractor pipe - perhaps you should invite the forum round to see it in the flesh... (Oh,you already have, haven't you  )

To be honest Steve i feel as though i haven't worked it to it's full potential :? Don't seem to have spent as much time on it as i thought. But when i have it as been great.
Just got a slight prob with the banjo not sliding as freely as i would like, have to keep cleaning the bed

Would anyone be interested in the original makers stand for a Myford Mystro? I've just collected my "new" lathe, and will be mounting it on a home made bench to provide more storage. So the original stand is surplus to requirements. It's a solid job, fabricated from 3mm or thicker plate.
Can give exact dimensions for anyone interested.

Just a thought Paul, have you checked the clamping plate and the underside of the bed that it slides on, there could be a bit of burr or cast causing the problem, if it's not that try easing the nut off a bit that holds the clamping plate on.

HI Paul

I have this problem as well but found the cure.

Undo the nut on the top of the slide and clean the underside of the washer this gets a build up of muck on it and sticks.

The other place to clean, which I found out by accident, is the underneath of the bed where the bottom of the banjo slides. I spilt some sealer and while cleaning it off I noticed that the underside of the bed felt rough, when I had a look there was quite a build up of gung where the bottom piece of the banjo slides. It took a bit of cleaning the first time but I now do it at least once a week and very rarely have any problems with the banjo now.
