Hi Shim,

Buy Frank Klauz's DVD, on Hand Tools. He is darn good, but he isn't 'precious'. In the DVD, he demonstrates a great way to sharpen your own saw. He has a rich Hungarian accent, but that's part of the fun.

Just realised you said tenon saw in your post title. So the DVD is ideal. Remember sharpen it as a cross cut for cutting shoulders or small sections across grain.

For tenons and dovetails, you'll need the saw sharpened as a rip saw. I wonder if this is the problem with yours, since it was sharpened? So, in all you need more than one tenon saw... :)

Was going to suggest the same thing.Once you get the hang of it,you never look back and you could practice on the cheap one 'til you get the technique right.

thanks will look into that dvd thanks im up for giving it ago myself. was looking at the adria carcase saw eairler as i have the dovetail saw and thats a very good saw for doing dovetails very fine and acurate, so like you say another saw might be in order :D .
its never been sharpened when ive had it got it passed down from my grt grandad, but it needs doing its so bad now i dont use it.
thanks

Frank Klauz's

just watching his video on dovetails again !

when you watch it - there is no need for a jig and router !

Very true Tusses,

I've owned the video for some years now and I never tire of watching it. In fact I just ordered the DVD from Taunton in the USA. Not arrived yet mind!

No matter how many times I watch Klausz's stuff, I find things I missed or had forgotten about! It's also the quickest way I know to make a utility drawer. For a 4" (100 mm) depth drawer, I can have it done and glued, in the time it would take to set up a dovetail jig!

Regards
John :D

I've not seen the whole Klaus DVD, just the clip on the Taunton site. Watching him cut dovetail pins made my jaw drop. He doesn't mess about!
