Need new extractor for small workshop

Hello,

My old Fein QA55 seems to have lost suction and is a bit louder and whinier. I've whacked the dust of the cloth filter and and the inner paper filter that was all clogged with dust (been hoovering up a lot of plaster dust). I can't figure out what else to do to get it working like it used to.

So maybe it's time for a new extractor. I have a small workshop, 3m x 6m, and it gets moved around between a mitre saw, router table, bobbin sander and orbital sander as well as general shop tidying. Power take off is essential.

Having recently added a Domino to my TS55, I must admit that the lure of the 'green and grey' is strong and I've been looking at the Festool CTL26 :roll: Is that a good option, I think the self cleaning one is £385 at the moment.

I keep hearing about dust cyclones as well but haven't looked into it.

I use a Dewalt extractor that switches on automatically when the tool fires up. I think most of the types like it and the Numatic are quite similar. I would also look at price and availability of dust bags to see how much it's going to cost over a period of time. Noise is also a factor so you may want look at dB levels, and the duty cycle may be a factor, for example could you run it for 4 hours constant if it was attached to a cnc router ?

I have the Numatic NVD750 and I would say it's a good vacuum extractor for a small workshop as you can use 100mm or 32mm hose for various power tools and machines so it's quite versatile.
I'm a little miffed why Numatic didn't equip the vac with individual switches for each motor so you could choose between 1200 watt or 2400 watt depending on the task?
The Numatic is probably a bit bulky to be lugging around if you do site work though.

The Festool would be more compact, has a power take off, ability to stack Systainers on top, anti static hose and variable power.

I have a festool ctl26 with a oneida ultimate dust deputy which fits on top. I almost never have to change the bag in the festool and just use plastic bags in the top box.
This is a great setup but for a spindle moulder or planer much more airflow is needed (high volume low pressure ) so its not great for bigger machines. For that I use a record dx5000 which uses big plastic bags and is mounted on a framework with wheels I made.

I can recommend both.

Take the Fein apart completely and clean it - - maybe put new brushes in , I bet the dust has got in the motor .
Then with the money you saved get a cyclone type thing
