Mystery wooden item

I went to a local hostelry this weekend where I saw an unusual item, basically a wooden wedge with a slot in one side, like a keyway and a corresponding raised fillet on the other side. This made me think several might be used together?
It obviously has some age, I don't have a clue what it's for but thought somebody might recognise it straight away, any ideas?

Seems vaguely familiar, it’s a bit thick and large, but it looks like a sash window wedge, the groove would fit around the parting bead? Suspect I’m wrong though. Ian

Looks a bit like those old butter paddles but the groove is a bit big.

I think this is part of an old boot last, used in the shoe making industry. I found this picture on-line that shows how it was used. The giveaway for me were the neat numbers which I have seen before on shoe lasts.
