Hi all
Not been doing much turning lately because of this guy, started out life as a 8`x 4` sheet of birch ply
All parts cut out and stuck together to give a rough contour of the shape

started shaping with the arbortech cutter

Made a feature of the ply, sanded, varnished and saddled up,bit of a bad hair day methinks!

Hopefully my two grandaughters will like him when I take him round tomorrow night.
Cheers and a very happy christmas to everyone

Who's going to be top of the popular Grandads list tomorrow, that's a beauty.

steve thats amazing, i wish the other pictures were clickable too, you did really well with that. Did you use a bought pattern for it..

Hi Steve
Yes it was from 'The Rocking Horse Shop' Fangfoss near York. Can't get me head round posting bigger images yet I'll see if I can make em bigger later.
Steve

That is very nice and I also love the effect of the ply layers.

It triggered off a memory deep in what I refer to as my brain of a house that was built using layered ply, furniture and all. Anybody else remember it?

Hi Gasman!

I have recently finished the same project for my daughter! took the best part of 9 months!!

The arbortec is a super tool, and the design of the horse is genius making the job easier than you would think. The horse hair is a PITA though!!!

Nice one MP . Think all the faces are different on the Rocky's I've seen. I agree about the soddin horse hair the mane nearly went out the window a few times ;-)
Steve

..the mane was the hardest bit!..

btw, I am quite new to woodworking and have to say i spent more on tools during the making of rocky than actually buying a completed horse!!

Enjoyed doing though.. anyway, sorry didnt mean to hijack your thread, just got quite excited when I saw someone else that had been through the same pain!

that's superb Steve, excellent lines and curves there!

I looked at Rocky but went for the little chair for our grandaughter as she's only just 2 - and I thought Rocky would be a step to far as I only had 3 weeks when I made the decision.

Everyone's here C-Day so I must admit I'm looking forward to seeing her reaction.

Hope your day goes well too.

Thanks for that Jumps, I`m sure your grandaughter will love her new chair. My fear is as my eldest grandaughter is only 3 that she will be scared of him and he`s confined to the garage on his first night !!
Steve

That looks awesome mate, I also love the effect of the ply, that is one helluva gift 8)

well done as well MP, looks equally as impressive
