Hi Folks,

Been concentrating on some basics lately and thought I'd post some pics.

Spalted beech TLH, 2 X Elm TLH, Oak TLH, Oak platter and Sycamore pebble bowl.

C&C welcome as usual.

Thanks JT.

Decided to 'walk' for a while and try and get the basics of turning understood and applied to a consistent standard. Still like doing the crazy, artistic stuff but for now I am really happy doing pieces like this.

It's still incredibale how much I'm learning. Every piece brings something new.

Cheers.

Neat little selection Lee, good standard of finish on all pieces by the looks of it.
The little Oak platter looks a good balance between turned decoration and natural wood features to me.

Certainly a test of tool control and finishing technique in that mixed bag of wood types.

Thanks Chaz,

I'm always checking out your website and I hope you don't mind but I used a lot of your work for inspiration.

There's absolutely tons of stuff to look at which is just brill for me and as i'm concentrating on form and finish mostly, then your the one I go to for that.

Many thanks.

Coming on nicely Lee. I find it helps going back to simple stuff as I sometimes forget certain methods :? guess its an age thing

 Most of my stuff is very basic I'm afraid, my main enjoyment is just going in the shed and doing a bit of relaxed turning be it wood or metal and getting the almost instant gratification of quickly finishing something.
Not having to earn a crust helps in this respect and a high proportion of my output, basic as it is has a ready outlet so there is still some room to move in the house.
Sometimes I wonder if the picture gallery is worth continuing but if it gives ideas and helps other hobby turners form a preference or otherwise on any particular form I'm happy to keep it going.
Hope you look at the Turner and Craft link Page for a more advanced guide to the wonderful world of turning, I know I spend hours drooling over some of the sites I have selected.

Nice work Lee.
Coming on in leaps and bounds.

Because of your remark about chas's website i had a look and there is certainly some inspiring work on there.
And i also found myself on there that is very kind of you Chas.Thank you.

Regards George

Thanks Steve, I'm not quite there with the age thing...yet!

Chaz, I think you underestimate your abilities. When I browse your catalogue it's simply stunning, and being retired must be great, just popping into the workshop and turning away, bliss.

I haven't come across another turner with such a high, consistent level of finish. I really admire that about your work and I try my best to achieve this with mine.

These pieces have really helped me concentrate on the basics, so to speak, but like George and Mark, my heart lies more in the artistic side. But the 'running' aspect I think has been limiting my creativity as I don't learn a lot from these pieces as my mind is generally empty at the time!

Thats the right attitude Lee, the best bit is that thought should never go away, there is always something new to find :D

Hi George, trying my best always m8.

Chas's site is rammed full of stuff, it's like a turners sweet shop and i'm the kid!

In fact, I look at everyones sites regularly, so much information to soak up and it's really helping me a lot.

Cheers.

Hi JT,

I think what I'm also appreciating about wood turning is that there really is so much to learn. I've been desperate for more study and this is giving me it in bucket loads, just great!

Hi Lee,

A bit of a change from your recent stuff

I like these pieces very much, my personal favourite is the oak platter, but all of them show a nice finish!

Malc :D
