I have recently inherited the family home along with the contents of my Dad's garden workshop.

He liked to work in wood, he made furniture for pleasure and also turned stuff on a lathe.

I, on the other hand like to play with spanners and intend to change the workshop from woodworking to restoring old motorbikes. I plan on selling some of Dad's stuff and using the proceeds to buy a hydraulic motorcycle lift/workbench. My first project will be the restoration of my girlfriends old Honda 400/4.

This will be a fairly easy way to get back into things, I haven't worked on anything like this for decades but having taken early retirement last year it's one of the things I plan to spend my time on, particularly in the winter.

Once I have restored the Honda to its former glory I shall be looking for a project bike. I have a hankering to tackle a 60s Triumph, a Bonneville or similar.

Dad's lathe is already gone, I gave it to one of my friends who's a woodworker and who spent hours talking all things wood related with him each time they met over the years.

Although not a biker (well not In the last 40 years), I'm sure a saw a post on the forum about a bike lift?
It might be worthwhile having a search or asking one of the bikers before you fork out (sorry about the pun) on a new lift.

Hi

Get your sales on here now you've whetted our appetites :) :)

I too am in the process of restoring motorbikes, a 77 Trident and a 61 G3 - I tend to do most of the work on a bench and lift off with an engine hoist.

Regards Mick

You could always combine the two:
