Just been to see a friend of a friend and been given some lovely lengths of wood all about 4.5 " wide and 1" thick. About 6 feet of lovely elm full of lovely little burrs and swirls and nearly 7 feet of the most amazing swirly wiggly ash, also some more 'ordinary' elm and ash and a piece of oak about 9"wide and 1" thick as well as some 1/4"oak about 4.5" wide
Now all I need to do is figure out what to do with it - maybe some tealight holders - is 1" thick enough for them? keyracks I guess - might need to sand it a bit thinner?
I love cutting and shaping wood, but don't have an artistic bone in my body, if anyone has any suggestions of the best use for this beautiful wood I would be grateful, only ever used b&q pine and hobbies woods before, almost afraid to use it........

Take your time gill and pick the subjects you cut to show off the grain, remember most of what you cut will disappear on the floor so things like tea light racks holding 3 or 4 t lights looks beautiful, enjoy the wood..

Well done you.... As Steve said take your time and something will find you. Got me thinking now.... LOL

Have to admit, if I see a Skip I pull over, and if I see some wood, I pull over, now a man in a Suit getting out of a BMW going skips is kinda funny.

But the real truth is people don't seem to care about throwing lovely wood out....

Gill I know exactly how you feel,it will take you to a new dimension that you will certainly enjoy.I was the same when I received my wood from Keith,I find it very difficult to throw away the off cuts from the proper wood.I still use Birch Plywood,it makes a contrast to the two woods that I have.I am in the final stages of the last project that I have made for Keith to thank him for the wood, will post them shortly.

Thanks all :) head still spinning with ideas... this guy has been building his own house on Deeside for the past 8 years, and has made all the skirtings etc himself, he showed me a worktop he has made from different local woods - awesome!!!! he has a huge barn with all the woodworking machinery you could wish for, including a sander big enough to run the worktop through. he sells firewood as a sideline, so imagine all that beautiful wood going up in smoke
Anyway, when he is ready, he is going to find a lovely piece of wood and get me to make a house sign, better get practicing :D
