After seeing so much about them and looking at their catalogue I figured I would place my first Axminster order (Finally a company with reasonable rates to the Republic of Ireland)

I was adding stuff to my cart and came across this page:
http://www.axminster.co.uk/sessionID/RU ... 207846.htm

It appeared their was a dovetail jig for really cheap (The Perform)

Being new to things I figured it was either a really cheap model or on clearance so I clicked through and ordered it.

It wasn't until I got my despatch confirmation and clicked through that it was actually just a cutter (which I have loads of).

I fired off an email to see if they could pull the order and let me exchange it out.

I guess I just got excited when I saw the price :)

To be honest Axminster is a very good retailer but their website is terrible.

The descriptions leave a lot to be desired.

The comparisons are often meaningless since the specs of similar products don't marry ie some will specify weight, others won't but will have noise values so you can't tell which is the lightest or the quietest.

The search function is next to useless.

Don't get me started on the 'caring about abandoned baskets' emails. You could leave a child outside a supermarket for longer without having enquiries about what your intentions are.

Its a real shame that IMO lets them down badly. Come on APTC - sort it out.

The customer service team will nearly always help out but its tedious to have to point out the problem several times.

Cheers

Tim

Never mind it would have been nice had it worked out.

Like when they cocked up with their Bessey pricing.

My second order has been just as frustrating. The catolog has shipping prices listed for Eire based on weight (and all the weights are listed in the catalog).

I ordered a thicknesser which was competively priced when I used the stated weight to figure the shipping. They came back the next day with an email on the charges and turns out is an additional 50 Euro to the catalog quote to ship it (On a 230 Euro Machine).

When I enquired, apparently the box weighs six kilos which puts it into the higher bracket (There is a huge jump if its even an ounce over).

Unfortunately they aren't really set up to ship to Ireland so I am just going to have to go back to sourcing local. Unfortunately that means I can only buy a low spec model since there doesn't seem to be decent choice here.

I'm not sure thats their fault

Just venting really...I should have just called for a quote on all the machines I was looking at (And this would have come up)

Im more frustrated that it adds €50 to go 20 miles across a border.

I suppose I can try to find someone on the other side of the border that will accept it then just go get it.

To Axminster's well deserved credit, they contacted me today to address my complaint and I am very happy with the resolution!

I've been dealing with Axminster for 7 yrs now, and though they don't always get things right, I have to say they do try.
Roger would be unlikely to have the hassle with them that he has had with B&Q IMO.

Roy.
