I've been meaning to do this for so long, but with the upheaval I've had in the workshop lately, it's the first time I've managed to clear some space and get some order.

Here's my secret santa gift:

Now, based on the address it came from, I'm guessing it's one of the woodkateer's, and I have sneaking suspicion it maybe from Waka??

All I can say is whoever it was is WOW - thank you so much, the quality of this item is truly fantastic and I'm extremely grateful to have received it, thank you very much indeed!'

Colin, you must be well chuffed with that addition to your shop!

not jealous at all  ( he says, lying through his teeth  )

That looks fantastic! Hope you've got a decent enough plane to go with it.

Someone was asking to see what a ramped shooting board looked like the other day on here - well, here's their answer!! :D

I thought that the ramp went the other way on a ramped shooting board - I'd better go and check before i say any more...but, that way round you have a chance of tear out on the top edge and the workpiece will want try and lift as you use it. If its the other way the force of the plane will keep the workpiece planted on the ramp and the base of the ramp stops and tearout...i think??????

Looks good though. :D

Glad you chaps like it - I was bowled over when I opened it. I'm looking forward to testing it in the next week or so (must finish sorting out the workshop).

I hope the maker can make themselves known to me so I can thank them personally - but if not, then I hope my thanks comes across with this thread.

There's a similar one here, wondered where the other one went

BB, I have made a slight modification to mine since I made them, because the running part that you put the plane on is of rosewood, I found that the plane didn't run as smoothly as I'd hoped, the finish kept coming off on the plane body as well.

I guess the choice is to try it and see, sand off the finish or you could do what I did and put on a strip of the non friction tape from Axminster.

Glad you like it.

Waka - thanks for the tips regarding the finish, rosewood as you probably know is naturally self lubricating (I use rosewood for guitar fingerboards) so it's an ideal choice for a shooting board.

I'm super impressed with the quality of the materials you have used and the craftmanship is top notch.

Thank you for the wonderful gift - and my apologies for not getting around to this sooner.

Just need to find a Record T5 to use with it now :)
