My 1st Router

Im looking at possibly getting the Bosch 1400 router, like this

Need to keep the costs down
Im only using it to make keyhole slots at the moment, so hopefully not a tricky job for it. Some people say the plunge part isnt that smooth.

Anyone used this router? or got anything to add? any suggestions much appreciated as there are very little decent reviews on routers online.

(ive been trying to use a palm router but its tricky keeping the 'plunge' straight)

https://www.routerforums.com might be some users of the Bosch there or point you in the direction of some reviews. Ps possibly a long shot, Which magazine at the library?

Router forums has a wealth of knowledge, but its well over 95% USA based. Their model machines can vary wildly to UK.
Ask away by all means,but just bear that in mind when it comes to pricing and model numbers.
Bosch is very highly regarded over there, I think they get better than the UK does.

A tip one of the chaps at Wealden gave me when cutting key holes was too use two cutters ( You might already know )...The first key hole cutter I used was part of a Rutlands set on a 1/2 inch shank, the head of the cutter snapped off on the third key hole. I called Wealden Cutters for a replacement and it was recommended to make the first cut using a straight cutter with two flutes, this takes the pressure off the shank of the key hole cutter. Takes longer but prolongs the life of your cutters

If it's just for cutting keyholes just go for a cheap router. I have a Clarke one permanently setup with a keyhole cutter and have cut 100s of keyholes and still on my first cutter.

The Clarke one is only about 60 quid I think and is fine. I have two of those. One for keyholes and the other for dovetails.
