I know it is too close to the shed, this was just a test fire.

It was a brazing hearth from school that was being chucked out, I have bodged on the sides and top with the mig.

The chimney does draw up but needs to be a bigger diameter, I used this pipe because it was all I could find.

I am thinking about a re vamp of the design with a bigger pipe (ebay?)

Still it was fun to do and my home made burgers tasted lovely :D

I will keep you posted on the improvements.

Your picture and the above comments bring back a memory of going to a BBQ many years ago. The guy was a builder and had a brick built BBQ. The flu was of a reasonable size and so configured that fish could be wrapped in foil and cooked at the outlet.

I was cooking sausages on the flat steel plate cooking surface and was aware at one point of a movement, and then realised that some of the sausages had disappeared - there was a gap between the steel plate and the flu and the draw was so great the sausages were being sucked off the plate and propelled into the atmosphere!!

Sorry Rob. Couldn't help myself. Almost choked on my ice water! Seems you built a Sausage Gun...

John

Thanks for the comments guys - I do have to admit that I don't remember actually seeing any launched sausages, but they must have gone upwards!

Carrying on the subject of the draw in a fire, I was told quite a remarkable story by a British guy I do business with in the south of France. He lives in a small village on a bluff. The village is quite exposed and when the north wind blows (it's like the Mistral but gets channelled coming down the Rhone valley), it really rattles everything. He'd just built his house and was trying out the fire - with a north wind this was clearly a good idea. The draw was so great that burning wood was sucked up the flue and fell onto the wood tiled roof. This set the tiles on fire and he had to go up a ladder above the cliff edge in a howling gale with a hose to put the fire out.

I'll just stick to launching flaming sausages.

As Stevebuk and Doug will tell you MK1 was not a total success
The chimeny was no way big enough and the welding was horrible, tacking and bending the curve was tricky + my welding was hit and miss.

It is not perfect now but the welds are coming on.

I got rid ot the whole top, kept the framework and built a box section.
The roof is attached to the chimeny and this is bolted onto a frame welded to the back.

Had a little test fire this eveing with some off cuts and the smoke drew up very nicely, it even made a humming sort of sound as it drew up.

Hopefully we have a nice weekend and I can throw some food at it.

Thanks for looking guys, enjoy the nice weather.
Rich
