I wouldn't normally post a Chrstmas present till after the day just in case someone went browsing, however, I'm pretty certain that the little one this is intended for isn't online just yet, so...
I was a bit stumped for what to get a 2.5 year old but after some browsing I found the http://www.janoschik.de/cms/ site and decided to make my version of the mouse.
It's all turned from oak except for the eyes and whiskers which are ebony from a pen blank.
The ears and base are stained with Blackfriars Chestnut brown which looks very much like sheoak when it's on, so much so I'm considering using some on a dummy saw handle to see if it matches the sheoak saw handle I received recently.
The base is held in with two o-rings which are suitably hard to get on and off but don't leave the hollow form underload when it's on. The tail is a strip of leather held onto the base with a screw.
All the components are held on with epoxy and pinned or screwed through so they can't fall off and get chewed (there's an even smaller one in the same household now). The finish is wax over shellac sealer.
If there's any interest I'll post a WIP as I am going to make a couple more.
Aidan
