Yes they are secure that way round. Looking at the catalogue images I would think the Simon Hopes items wont work on either of the earlier systems. One interesting item to come out of investigating these is that Axminster also do a range of traditional profile straight rests to fit onto their own modular tool posts. Concave with a thin stainless steel rod on top, quite affordable compared to lathe spares or the expensive Robust range.

I made one - scrape a hollow along the edge of a cast iron rest and epoxy a piece of HSS stel rod in it.
