Mitre saw recomends?

I am thinking I can justify a saw for cutting skirting(7")/architrave mitres, and for cutting wooden floor blocks. It will of course be useful for other things too.

Any recommendations for something that will do the job reliably and not cost a fortune? I have never used one before so I do not know what to look for. Any help gratefully received.

I had a Bosch and will get the same again. It is excellent.
The only downside of it is that is is not light, so if you are working on site it's a bit of a lug. The Makita is lighter and has a good reputation, but I've never used it.

I have the Bosch Axial glide. Brilliant but it aint cheap. I did have a cheap Nutool one but that was never any good for anything but firewood.

I have two Makita's a LS1013 slider and a LS1040 both are very good.
The LS1013 would be the one you need.

On amazoon these start with the Bosch PCM 7 at £164. Will this cut 7" skirting in one go? 7" = ~175mm blade is only 190mm.

The next bosch up is the Bosch PCM 7 S which slides, so I assume that it cuts more - just about enough if I interpret the figures right. £216 is a bit higher than I was expecting but may be justified. I am working on my own house, so do not cost my time. If I save a day and a half of tradesman-time with it it will have paid for itself, I guess. And that is probably just about feasible on the current project.

Nope. Actual cut will only be about 6" unless it's a sliding saw.

For 7" skirting you really need to look at a saw with at least a 10" blade (254mm in metric). If you can stretch to one with a 12" blade, even better. That goes for fixed head models. If you're looking at a slider, an 8" blade will give you scope for a depth of cut up to just shy of 3". The Evolution slider for instance will cut 8" x 2 1/2" timber.

Ah, not sure about that. Mine was the GSM10SD, I think. Quite a lot more than the prices you are talking about though.

Those are the ones Phil. However, the 210mm one is regularly on offer at Screwfix for less than that. Although I have seen it for £150 with "free" circular saw included.

Looks nice, but the price makes it harder to justify.

I just ordered a 'Evolution RAGE3-S 230V 210mm Multipurpose Sliding Mitre Saw' from amazon for £144.26 + free delivery. Should arrive sometime next week. Will not need it before then. The reviews seemed positive (70 or more on Screwfix with a high average rating) so rather than spend ages obsessing I just went for it. It only has to save me 10 tradesman hours to pay for itself and with a large room to replace all skirting/picture rail and repair woodblock floor I should easy manage that. My wife even encouraged me to buy it. Out of the joint account. :lol:

And with the Evo, you don't need to worry about embedded nails. It'll also cut thick wall alu, mild steel. Replacement blades are only about £22 as well.
