How do you cut dovetails in 1/32" wood? I can't do it in 1/2"!

You could equally ask why not? Why do people make dolls houses, or paint lead soldiers or make huge war dioramas? It's a hobby, it doesn't have to make sense - if it brings him pleasure, and others, and also makes him a living then good luck to him. Personally I think it is fantastic. For me it would be the challenge of making something as accurate as possible to that scale. Making it full size is a common skill - just look at some of the items members here produce - fantastic work but not unique since many members have that skill level. How many of us could reproduce 1/12th scale furniture to that degree of accuracy though? Very few of us I suspect, I certainly couldn't.

Surely that's the reason right there!?

There are loads of things that I do that have absolutely no value whatsoever, but I do them because I can. He must be making a decent living out of this (unless he is independently wealthy) so in that respect it's exactly the same as your job or mine, except he appears to love every second of his job, and comes out the end of it with something spectacular and tangible to see.

Then again, I don't really like dolls houses :wink: But the miniature toolkit is cool.

My only question would be;


Why?

I remember a few years back when I came across a Salesman sample stove 1/12 scale...the salesman would show the buyer what he was selling him.Instead of lugging around a stove that weighted around a ton he had this little stove to show him(The customer) what he was going to get for his money.A lot of companys did this, I later found out.So thats one reason ....the other would be he likes doing it kind of like you guys in your younger days building model aircraft.
