I am thinking about buying a mini saw as I spend alot of time cutting small mitres etc for jewellery box drawers and so on. There does not seem to be a great range of possibilities - in fact the proxxon range seems to be about it in this country...
Has anyone got either of these:
http://www.axminster.co.uk/product....id=Proxxon&name=&user_search=&sfile=1&jump=44
This one is the FET which is I believe the newer model - with a plastic body, micro-adjust, zero insert, no rpm adjustment and with a long mitre fence
This one is the older model (but is more expensive - don't get that) http://www.axminster.co.uk/product....id=Proxxon&name=&user_search=&sfile=1&jump=44
This is the FKS/E which has speed adjustment, aluminium body.... but costs more
There is a German website
http://www.sell-it-easy.de/wbc.php?cmd=lang&lc=34 which sells all Proxxon stuff for considerably less than anywhere in the UK. Interestingly their prices for these 2 saws are almost identical. Has anybody bought from them? They answered a query from me overnight saying that shipping would take 2 weeks - and it would save about 30 pounds including shipping on the FET but 60 quid on the FKS/E
I am tempted by the FET if any... anyone know better? Thanks for your help

Hi Gasman,

Don't know whether you are into using hand tools, but for mitres, drawer sides and the like, a hand plane on a shooting board will give you far more accuracy. Shooting boards cost almost nothing to make are are a joy to use.

Cheers

Thank you both for your replies - I do use a shooting board and a mitre saw occasionally - but I also do alot of inlays where I cut 1-2 mm holly or ebony and fans made up of thin slices of holly and ebony and other woods which are a devil to cut accurately by hand

- so I really think a small table saw with a zero insert for the blade would be easier for me - just wondered if anyone on this forum has either of the Proxxon saws?
Thanks
Gasman

I think that saw looks amazing - and you could do it in your lounge in the middle of the night and not wake anyone - but the price! - and I don't think there is a UK distributor yet is there?? It would be over a grand here I am sure. It makes the Proxxon saws look cheap by comparison!
