Medullary rays prone to cracking?

I made some candle holders from some oak firewood and it wasn’t until I added some finish that I noticed the medullary rays.

tbh I’d never heard of them before googling and had assumed they were saw marks until the finish really made them pop.

Are they likely to become a weak point and eventually crack?

hard work eh.....
never seen cracks from the rays ever....I just love Oak.....
I lived in a 17th Century converted watermill, stone walls n huge oak beams....
if u have a birthday comming up ask for a lathe....even just a small one....
look on facebook etc....there's always a few......
I'd been wanting a bigger, better lathe (mines a vari speed Poolwood)
She bought me a Wadkin RS......hahaha....

Only if you're pull cutting - pushing away uses yer triceps. (Sorry, just being pedantic ).

And I agree with clogs - get yourself a lathe - definitely easier!

True enough. Most of my saws are Japanese. Maybe I should try a kanna and alternate for a full workout?
