So I’ve been gifted this lovely set of original marples chisels by my girlfriends grandad I feel very lucky indeed

lovely set. I have one a generation later than that (in the picture below) - I have one "large set", not just the one shown in the picture. My set is no good (most of them are unhardened, but I think that was just an accident and I didn't pay much for them. If I use one, I just reharden it and torch temper (not that accurate, but functional).

The set that you have is far more attractive from a maker's perspective because it's clear that it wasn't just ground in jigs whereas mine looks like it was just rotary ground in some kind of automatic jigging machine.

not to mention the logo on yours and the stamp in the steel makes them a real treat.
 
Well he owned a tool shop in Yorkshire so cept these hence why there in such good condition
 
very nice chisel set, they'll last you a lifetime!
I know he said he had some old tools for me didn’t expect this in the bunch haha
Won’t take these to work tho they stay in the workshop use my mhgs for work as less precious about them but still use a wooden mallet I know old school but nothing wrong with a bit of old school at times
