Very nice work Ed.

When I first saw it I thought that the legs had a little too much curvature. But on second viewing I think they look very nice for the piece. Am I right in saying that the tenon at the top of the legs is angled inwards (from the front view at any rate), and then the legs are splayed outwards?

Also, was there any particular reason why you used PU glue to make the stock for the legs? I wonder whether normal PVA would have given a less visible glue line?

Cheers

Not sure I quite get what you are saying Karl, but the rail to leg relationship is just as a typical table, everything is at 90 degrees, with the tenons mitred into the corner as the mortices meet. The legs are only curved at the bottom - the lense distorts the leg slightly and makes it appear that they are sloping inwards, but they are not.

Just a bad decision, you're quite right that PVA would have been fine and would not have showed. I have done laminations in the past on oak and cherry where the PU was helpful for its slight gap filling properties and due to the wood colour it was invisible. No such luck on the maple, but you live and learn...

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

That's what I was referring to - it does look on your photo like the legs are angled in slightly (hence my reference to an angled mortice & tenon) and then curve back out.

No I'm not that good!

That's a beautiful table, Ed, very well done. :) I do share Rob's thoughts about the lower rail but, I really like the chamfer added to the underside of the top. It's bound to get visitors talking when they reach the top of your stairs!

I agree with everything everyone has said, absolutely beautiful design and execution looks perfect. The centre rail looks great but I think might look even better with a little more depth, but that is a tiny critique, and given my catalogue of projects one that I am barely qualified to make.

All in all I love it and would be proud to have it on display in my house.

Cheers

You'll have to fight Mrs. Sutton for it!
