I have been given 3 ltrs. of Manor white polish in a container (shipley paints) which I am told is about 20 years old.
Also the same quantity of button polish (darker) of the same age.

Bearing in mind its age, is this stuff just like putting on shellac?
Put on, let dry, sand off and then wax?

Yes, they are both Shellac. If they're 20 years old they may be past their best - test some on an off-cut of wood to see if they will actually dry. Old shellac tends to never dry hard.
Hope this helps,
Philly :D

The white polish will almost certainly have gone off; it normally only has a shelf life of 6 months!

Terry make me an offer

It will be really interesting to see if they both dry, my feeling is that they will. We recently had a customer visit us who said he was still using polish that came in a stone jar! We last supplied them back in the early 50's!

I will give them a try later today if I can get out there without anymore diversions. Just going to start a battle with E-on.

Thanks for that suggestion.

BTW the polish which is estimated to be over twenty years old seems to dry perfectly OK. I suppose with old stock you must do a trial run seems to be the answer.
