Anyone got one of these? .. how is it?

The video of it in action seems very good. I like the way you can wind the motor up and down to increase/descreas the depth of cut (which I believe only the Mikita does?)

How does it compare to the Dewalt/Bosch?
Is the winding feature accurate? as in is there any slop?

I'll be using it for smaller tasks that my main router is too big and clunky for

I've got one and think it's pretty good all round, though the Katsu seems to be exactly the same but cheaper. Only two main issues, the fence which comes with it is not particularly good (though I can't remember if the fence is just for the trimmer base and there is none for the plunge base!!) so a better one needs to be bought and the locking knob on the plunge base comes undone all too often. Its main good points are lightness and flexibility of the bases. I've had it about a year or so, use it fairly often and no issues so far (apart from the locking knob :? ). Can't compare to other makes but would thoroughly recommend it (apart from the b***** locking knob).

The winding feature is pretty good and I find accurate, can't remember if there is any slop but you have to lock it off anyway so that shouldn't matter

I have heard reports that the casting can break where the spindle lock button is when tightening the collet up, so I always use both spanners instead, and these came with it. I also got mine in the Systainer "knock off" box, which for me is another major plus.

The locking knob issue is a bit of a pain in case I forgot to mention it.

You could save a bundle of money buying the Katsu - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KATSU-3-8-1-4 ... Sw9r1WDmNl

All Makita 0700 parts said to fit and the trimming guide is here - https://www.partshopdirect.co.uk/makita ... p122703-7/

There's a previous thread about them here - katsu-router-trimmer-t92553.html

EDIT - Just realised, my Katsu came with the guide but I haven't used that part yet.

Thanks for that. It looks as though they don't do a similar kit though, There is the plunge kit for £100, but no tilting base (looks like its been removed?)

The Makita is still tempting though considering you get a 3 year warranty as well as a quality brand (Katsu is new to me)

Couldn't you save a ton of money just buying the Bosch? http://www.axminster.co.uk/bosch-gkf-60 ... sel=702335

Does the Makita have something different on it?

The height adjustment thing looks really useful

I have the Bosch, and it generally works well, but the "micro-depth adjuster" is a bit rubbish - it allows fine adjustment but as you lock it in place it tends to move.

It doesn't bother me, I use mine for edge trimming or set it using the drill bit trick so it's not a massive issue.

If you want accurate micro-adjustment that works perfectly: Festool. But it's not worth the £££ for me.

I've got one with a really good, functioning locking knob! :D

I find it useful for jobs where the half inch is just to unwieldy. Nice and flexible for a wide range of jobs. I also find the fence a bit fiddly and often resort to 'local' adjustments as required.

Obviously the plunge and tilt depend on what you're doing but I find it a useful tool in the armoury.

Not sure how I missed it, but the ebay kit does come with the tilt base

Or on AimTools http://www.aimtools.co.uk/101749-katsu- ... -700w.html ( + £7.50 PP)

Any thoughts on their router bit set?

http://www.aimtools.co.uk/router-bit-set-24pcs.html

Is that 6mm or 6.35mm.

Apart from that, potentially one use throwaway bits that may or may not explode at around the height of your genital region.

Your call :)
