I thought I would give a bit of feedback here on the new table saw (Makita MLT100) I bought a couple off weeks back. I have never owned a table saw and while I would have loved to spend £600-£700 on a big heavy high quality saw I simply could not afford it on my budget so I was left with the choice of a saw like the TS200 or a contractors saw. The plus points of the TS200 type saw was the larger table and induction motor but the 60mm depth of cut was something I felt may come back to bite me so I wanted to have a saw with a slightly bigger cut capacity. The Makita has a sliding table and there is a side extension (although it is not large enough to take an 8’ x 4’ sheet but that’s what my circular saw is for as I can’t see myself trying to manhandle a large sheet through a table saw of this size) and the fence/mitre fence are nice and solid. The accuracy is spot on and was dead on out the box but I checked it all with my square and Wixley box. The motor is not as noisy as my mitre saw and as I wear muffs when using it this is no problem. The blade is obviously a Makita branded item and gives a very smooth even cut. At the moment I do not have an extractor so I have simply attached a large plastic sack to the extraction outlet and it catches 90% of the waste which I was very impressed with and I would imagine with a good extractor on it would get it all. The saw does not come with a stand so I have knocked one up out of 6x2 timber I had lying around and I will make a portable outfeed table for sitting at the back of the saw which will give me the table this smaller saw lacks. I paid £300 delivered for the saw I definitely think I made the right decision as it does everything I need it to do and if in the future I can stretch to a lovely big cast iron table saw which definitely won’t be for a couple of years then the Makita will have been well worth the money. Hope this maybe helps some people on a budget like myself.
