Makita LS1013 Mystery Part

I recently bought a Makita LS1013 and in one of the bags was a piece of plastic about 5mm thick with a recess approximately 2mm deep moulded in the top. There seems to be no mention in the manual of its inclusion.

Is it just a cheap set square for blade alignment?

Any better suggestions?

I got one of these with my saw years ago......I think its used to line up the blade to make sure you get correct 90degree angle........esp if you want to reset the angle stop on the back of the saw.

At least thats what I've been using mine for....

It's the Triangular Rule (part number 762001-3), as shown on page 19 of this users' manual. It's for setting the fence to the blade.

Thanks for all the replies and also for the warm welcome. I've been silently lurking here for a few months, trudging through the archives and trying to absorb as much as possible.

I bought the LS1013 to assist in building the frame for my latest project - a new insulated spacious and well lit workshop I'll be starting later in the summer to save me messing up the kitchen/garage/patio.

Dave, posting pictures requires a camera all I've got is a scanner and a 25 year old SLR so it might be an all at once posting when i'm finished.

Basically it will be about 6m x 4m, insulated concrete floor, insulated walls and roof and the way I'm feeling right now I think I'll have air conditioning too! Digging post holes to get a fence in place has taken it out of me with this almost unbearable heat. Now half the holes are dug the rain has come and filled them up.
